Meet Our MRANI Judges

Welcome to the Our Judges page, where you can learn more about the esteemed individuals who make up the judging panel for our competitions.

We believe that transparency and accountability are essential in any judging process, which is why we make sure to provide detailed information about each of our judges, including their credentials, areas of expertise, and professional affiliations. This allows entrants to see exactly who is evaluating their work and how their scores are being calculated.

We are proud to have such a distinguished group of judges on our panel and are confident that their expertise and dedication will help us to maintain the highest standards in all of our competitions.

Johann Vizagie (Civil Engineering and property development.)

Johann Vizagie was born in Cape Town, South Africa and moved to Ireland in 2001 to continue his professional career in Civil Engineering and property development. In 2013, together with his wife Andrea established international ministries in Belfast, Finland and Ma

Every Nation ministries now operates in over 86 nations and University campuses around the world since 1994 addressing social needs,education and campus ministry. Johann is a visionary leader, Life coach, entrepreneur, teacher, pastor and also the founder and author of iLive Leadership www.iliveleadership.org that is an accredited leadership program At Queens University that teaches andequips students for life to become visionary leaders of influence, character and integrity. iLive Leadership is an accredited leadership programme that was started at Queen’s University that has equipped 100’s of students from around the world in Belfast and now also operating and equipping students in Hawaii, New Zealand, Isle of Man, UK and other parts around the world. Johann is also the founder of the popular Southern African Community Day in Northern Ireland that attracts 1000’s of people from different tribes and nations since 2019 each year in Holywood to celebrate and promote cultural diversity / integration and also promote migrant and local businesses and ministries in Ireland.

Dr Mukesh chugh - Chair - Northern Ireland chapter of the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin

Dr Mukesh Chugh is a respected Consultant Anaesthetist with extensive experience Throughout his career, he has combined clinical excellence with a strong commitment to leadership, equality, and community service, earning recognition at both regional and national levels. A prominent figure within the medical profession, Dr Chugh is the founding Chair of the Northern Ireland chapter of the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO). He has also played a key role in advancing diversity and inclusion within healthcare as a founding member and former Chair of the Western Trust Ethnically Diverse Staff Network. Through these positions, he has worked to promote greater representation, support professional development, and foster inclusive working environments. As a member of the judging panel, Dr Chugh brings a wealth of professional expertise, leadership experience, and a genuine commitment to recognising excellence, celebrating achievement, and supporting diverse communities

Dr Eiman Abdel Meguid, PhD, MB BCh, SFHE

Dr Eiman Abdel Meguid, PhD, MB BCh, SFHE  is a Reader at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), UK with expertise in clinical anatomy. She is the Programme Lead for MSc in Clinical Anatomy. She enjoys her work as a member of the Operational Group of QUB path to Sanctuary and as a Board Member of Belfast City of Sanctuary. She is also very passionate about her role as the Racial Equity Champion of her school. She feels enormous pleasure when a role she has been involved in makes a difference in students’ experience. She was an International Visiting Scholar/Guest Speaker for Weill Cornell Medicine, NY and is currently on the Education Affairs Committee of the American Association of Clinical Anatomy (AACA) and on the Award Committee of the European Federation for Experimental Morphology.  She is enthusiastic about anatomical sciences education. Her areas of research interest include anatomical variation, multimodal teaching strategies, implementing innovative pedagogical technology, applying audience response system in teaching, flipped classrooms, blended learning and implementing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the curriculum. She has published widely in high impact journals, produced books and presented at many national and international meetings, including multiple invited talks. Recently, she won AACA Senior Faculty Award for the best presentation at the AACA Annual Conference. She enjoys being a regular reviewer for the Anatomical Sciences Education, BMC Medical Education and Clinical Anatomy Journals.

 

Adekanmi Abayomi

Adekanmi Abayomi, LLB (Hons), is a Social Justice Advocate and a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Upon arriving in the UK, he founded the award-winning EMSONI – Ethnic Minority Sports Organisation Northern Ireland in 2018. He chaired the board of EMSONI between 2018 and 2026 before stepping down in 2026 to take on a new role within the organisation as Chief Executive. As a long-term racial equality activist, his campaign work promoting good relations and equity through intercultural sport initiatives continues to provide an important reference point for policymakers in developing fair and inclusive strategies for all communities. Through his advocacy, he has consistently provided a voice for marginalised groups, advancing justice and fairness within and beyond legal and policy frameworks.

Valencia Yeo

Inclusion Manager at Business in the Community Northern Ireland

Valencia Yeo is the Inclusion Manager at Business in the Community Northern Ireland, where she supports the promotion of equity, diversity and inclusive practices across workplaces and communities. With over five years’ experience in the community and voluntary sector, she works closely with employers and communities, acting as a bridge to support more inclusive and meaningful engagement. An advocate for inclusive practice, Valencia supports businesses to take practical, measurable steps to improve access to job opportunities. She leads the Opening Doors campaign, an inclusive employment initiative that supports employers to assess and strengthen their approach to inclusion through practical action and measurable change.

Tura Arutura is a multidisciplinary Gaeilge first performing artist, educator and cultural practitioner whose work fuses African and Irish traditions through percussive dance,spoken-word and music. Known for blending the driving footwork of Sean-nós with contemporary performance and community-cultural work, Tura creates high-energy experiences that celebrate language, rhythm, and shared storytelling across communities. At Beyond the Pale, Tura performs with his band The African Celtic Experience a dynamic live set where African grooves and Celtic traditions meet and also leads a dance workshop focused on rhythm, footwork, and accessible, joy-filled movement for all levels. The band features some of Ireland’s most talented trad and contemporary musicians. A show not to be missed. Tura is a recipient of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland SIAP Award

Nancy McMullan is Head of Engagement at Diversity Mark

Nancy McMullan is Head of Engagement at Diversity Mark, where she leads the organisation’s signatory engagement strategy and oversees the independent assessment process. In this role, she supports organisations across Northern Ireland to drive meaningful progress in equality, diversity, and inclusion.

With a strong background in relationship management, communications, and purpose-led engagement, Nancy is known for building impactful partnerships and fostering inclusive workplace cultures. Prior to joining Diversity Mark, she held senior roles across the professional and financial services sectors.

Nancy also serves as a Board Member with Engage Executive Talent, part of the CO3 Group, where she contributes to strengthening leadership across the voluntary and community sector.

Passionate about turning intent into action, Nancy is committed to helping organisations embed inclusion at every level. As a judge for the MRANI Awards 2026, she brings a thoughtful perspective and a deep commitment to recognising excellence and celebrating diverse talent.

Lorraine Acheson is an independent management consultant and Board Member with over 25 years’ experience across innovation, health and inclusive economic development. She works with government, industry and the voluntary sector to support system‑level change, strong governance and effective collaboration, and brings deep knowledge of the Northern Ireland business and innovation ecosystem. She was Managing Director of Women in Business and Deputy CEO of The WiB Group between 2022-2026 and is a Trustee for Stepping Stones NI.

Chair Continuing Personal & Professional Development WG (BAME+)

Dr Minhas Mahsud is a Lecturer at Ulster University Business School, Belfast and chairs the Continuing Personal and Professional Development Working Group at the BAME Network. Originally hailing from Pakistan, she acquired the prestigious Chinese Government Scholarship to earn her doctorate degree in Business Management from Beihang University, China. While volunteering with the International Office in Beijing, she was recognized for her leadership skills and given the opportunity to work with diverse groups at the World Economic Forum. She is passionate about women’s education and professional development and has been actively involved in promoting EDI values at various forums. Minhas has acquired the Disability Positive accreditation and being a member of Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, she is dedicatedly playing a role in creating a world where people and nature thrive. She is an active member of the Belfast Asian Women’s Academy where Asian women find inspiration and empowerment. Minhas lives in North Belfast with her husband and two teenage children and aspires to contribute to community development, intercultural awareness and integration. 

Kate Nicholl is an MLA for Belfast South and served as the 79th Lord Mayor of Belfast. Kate is Chair of the All Party Group on Ethnic Minorities, Chair of the All Party Group on Climate Action, Vice-Chair of the All Party Group on the Arts.

Born in Zimbabwe, Kate moved to Belfast when she was twelve years old, where she attended Methodist College Belfast. She graduated from University College London with a BSc in Anthropology in 2011.

A Belfast City Councillor for the Balmoral ward from 2016, Kate also worked as a marketing professional before taking a career break in 2021 to serve as Lord Mayor of Belfast and was then elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly in 2022. She is Migration Spokesperson for the Alliance Party and passionate about childcare reform, diversity in politics and ending violence against women and girls.

Kate lives with her husband and two small children in South Belfast.

Chairs the Membership and Community working group of Ulster University’s BAME+ Network.

Dr Shukla chairs the Membership and Community working group of Ulster University’s BAME+ Network. Focus of this working group is to organise intercultural and community events at university. Idea of such events, organised by BAME+ Network in collaboration with other departments, centres, societies, and services of the university, is to connect BAME+ and international students and staff with local students and staff in the university and local community.
